Expenses which are incurred if the insured is hospitalised for a period of 24 hours or more are called hospitalisation expenses. These expenses include room rent, ICU rent, nurse’s fees, doctor’s fees, operation theatre charges, surgeon’s fee, anaesthetist’s fee, cost of blood, oxygen, etc.

Pre hospitalisation expenses

Expenses incurred before the insured is actually hospitalised are called pre hospitalisation expenses. Health plans cover such expenses for a period of 30, 60 or 90 days

Post hospitalisation expenses 

Expenses which are incurred for recovery and monitoring the health of the insured after he/she is discharged from the hospital are called post-hospitalisation expenses. Such expenses are covered for 60, 90 or 180 days

Ambulance charges

Costs incurred on an ambulance for taking the insured to the hospital are covered up to a certain limit

Day care treatments

Pre-existing illnesses

If the insured suffers from known illnesses at the time of buying the policy, such illnesses are called pre-existing illnesses. Pre-existing illnesses are not covered in the initial 1-4 years of the policy and this period is called waiting period 

Specific illnesses in their waiting period 

There are specific treatments and named illnesses which are not covered in the first 1-4 years of the plan like hernia, piles, joint replacement surgeries, etc.

Self-inflicted injuries

If the insured harms himself/herself or attempts suicide, subsequent medical costs are not covered

Cosmetic and dental treatments 

Treatments which are cosmetic in nature and not required for treating any illness are not covered. Similarly, dental treatments are also not covered unless they are required in the treatment of an accidental injury

Mental disorders 

Psychiatric disorders or mental imbalances and their treatments are not covered 

Congenital disorders

  • If you are getting hospitalised in a networked hospital, it would be a cashless claim. You should inform the insurance company immediately of your claim
  • Fill up a pre-authorization form stating the claim details and submit the form to the insurance company. 
  • If it is a planned hospitalisation, the form should be filled in and submitted at least 3 to 5 days before being hospitalised. If, on the other hand if the hospitalisation is due to an emergency, fill up the form and submit it within 24 hours of hospitalisation 
  • The insurance company would verify the pre-authorization form and approve the claim
  • Once the claim is approved you can avail cashless treatments. The medical bills would be settled by the insurance company directly with the hospital 
  • A Manipal Cigna Health Insurance claim form should be filled and submitted with the insurance company along with all the medical documents to complete the claim process.

What is the process for Manipal Cigna reimbursement health insurance claim?

  • If you are being hospitalised in a non-networked hospital, your claim would be settled on a reimbursement basis. 
  • You should inform Manipal Cigna of the claim and then avail treatments.
  • Pay for the medical expenses incurred on your treatments.
  • After being discharged from the hospital, collect the Discharge Summary 
  • Fill up the claim form of Manipal Cigna Health Insurance and submit it along with all the original medical bills and reports. The Discharge Summary should also be submitted to the insurance company.
