Documents required for Aadhaar Card Enrolment: Complete Guide

An Aadhaar is a new-age document that has a 12-digit exclusive identification number that is issued by the UIDAI on behalf of the Indian Government to all residents in India, created on their biometric and demographic facts. Aadhaar is a biometric paper that holds your personal statistics in the government database. Aadhaar is treated as a one-point identification document and does not substitute a Passport, or a PAN, or a Driving license or any other valid proof of identity documents. It is issued to the residents of India based on their biometric and demographic data.

According to the Aadhaar Act, 2016, residents in India are eligible to apply for an Aadhaar card. A resident here is defined as an individual who is living in the country for 182 days or more in the earlier year from the date of putting an application for enrolment. If you are meeting this criterion and wish to enrol yourself for getting an Aadhaar, you need to fill up the Aadhaar Enrolment Form that is available on the official website of UIDAI. Then you need to submit any UIDAI authorized  Aadhaar Enrolment Centres  in India. You must attach the form with self-attested photocopies of certain specific supporting documents required for the Aadhaar card that will be authenticated thereafter. These documents are further subdivided into essentially four groups which we will discuss in the next section.
